Zipping - A Tribute To Courage

With the running of the Zipping Classic this Saturday at Sandown it is very timely to reflect on the career of Zipping, the horse that won the Sandown Classic in four consecutive years, 2007 through to 2010. The highlights of Zipping's career appear below and as can be seen from that table Zipping was an extraordinarily good horse; however his race record alone does not do him justice as it does not show that he was one of the most courageous horses ever to race in this country. When Zipping created history by racing-away with an unprecedented fourth Sandown Classic with Nick Hall in the saddle there were fantastic scenes of jubilation from the wet Sandown crowd; ace racecaller Greg Miles captured the historic moment perfectly as Zipping crossed the line first, "four straight classics, you're a quaddy beauty!"

The Geelong Cup - History and Preview

The first Geelong Cup was run and won in 1873 by Leo but its significance in recent years as a key form reference for the Melbourne Cup has become immense. Media Puzzle started the ball rolling in 2002 by completing the Geelong Cup/Melbourne Cup double; other Geelong Cup winners to have performed brilliantly in the Melbourne Cup since then are On A Jeune (2005, 2nd), Bauer (2008, 2nd), Americain (2010, 1st) and Dunaden (2011, 1st).

"Ollie" Wins His Fifth Thousand Guineas

Commanding Jewel

Embattled jockey Damien Oliver steered Commanding Jewel to victory in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas at Caulfield yesterday and in the process captured his fifth win in this classic event. Oliver proved yet again what a champion jockey he is by blocking-out the controversy that he is engulfed in at the moment and producing a stellar ride. Commanding Jewel is the half-sister to 2011 Thousand Guineas winner Atlantic Jewel; although she may not be as good as her illustrious relation Commanding Jewel dominated this Group 1 event. The race was also a triumph for trainer Leon Corstens who adds the Thousand Guineas to his Caulfield Guineas win with Star Spangled Banner in 2009. From a Wakeful Stakes and VRC Crown Oaks point of view the runs of Dear Demi and Zydeco could not be missed.

Good luck today punters! #DerbyDay #MelbCupCarnival #StartWinning
